Family Involvement
When you enroll your child at GHCP you will acquire parenting and family management skills through:
All of these will help you, as a parent, develop realistic age-level expectations from knowledge of childhood behavior and growth. GHCP helps you acquire skills to interact with children using developmentally appropriate practices. Parent Education provides you and your family with community resources and helps you to apply safe and healthy practices in the home including nutrition, First Aid, wellness, exercise, stress management and risk management.
Parent Participation is a key element of the cooperative preschool experience. Parents are invited and expected to participate by:
- Meetings during school hours with a Bates College Home and Family Life Instructor (Parent Shares)
- Lectures and Parent Education Seminars
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
- Practical experience as you work in your child's classroom

- Working in the classroom 3-4 times per month (depending on the size of the class) or finding a suitably trained substitute (nanny, grandparent, etc.)
- Working on a committee or the Co-op Board
- Attending Parent Education events throughout the school year
- Participating in fund-raising for the school
